Nectarines vs. Peaches

So, all this time I thought that nectarines and peaches were, like, cousins, when in fact they are exactly the same. You could have nectarines on a peach tree and vice versa. So why do they taste different to me? They are similar, but I've never had a nectarine that tasted exactly like a peach. I've had peaches that tasted exactly like another peach or a nectarine...you get the picture.

Just another example of my weirdness...
